The God that we serve is a jealous God (see Deuteronomy 4:24). He wants to be our Father. He wants to be our love, our focus, our all!
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.
Ye cannot serve God and mammon (or wealth).”
Matthew 6:24
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
1 John 2:15-16
According to these verses, we either love God or the world. We either serve God or the world. There is no “middle ground.” It has often been said, “You cannot serve God with one foot in the world.” Both feet need to be planted in the word of God, rooted and built up in Him.
God desires to be number one in our lives. Are we following our desires or His?
